Fifth grade students will focus on writing three types of essays: narrative, opinion, and informational. Each essay can vary in length, but we will focus on writing a multiple paragraph essay. We are working to build writing skills that show effective, descriptive, and creative writing techniques.
Grammar is a large part of our writing lessons. We will focus on writing compound and complex sentences, identifying parts of speech, using punctuation correctly (like semi-colons, apostrophes, commas, and quotation marks) in writing.
Embrace writing at home! Try keeping a journal, write a cartoon or comic with a story board, or write stories in an old notebook. . Think about using the computer at home to write... it makes revising and editing your writing a breeze!
